EXP1 The Datum

The developed scheme is presented in a new structure - the "honeycomb" system. The honeycomb shape has been used to create the structure of the building, creating a more interesting overall design. The stairs are now enlarged to create a bigger impact in the space and elevators accomodate the clients' bigger projects or art pieces to bring them to the common space in a creative way.

Materials - concrete, corrugated iron, rusted metal, timber and glass.

Perspective Images:

All cylinders now have a purpose, being stairs, elevators, work benches and act as a window into the artist's studio.

Stair Concept Assessment

The Stair

Words- Revive and Engineered

My concept was inspired by Trent Jansen’s manner of creating (re-using materials), along with the verb ‘revive’.  The spiral staircase allows Trent’s artwork to be seen from all angles as he moves between the lower ground and the showroom. For larger design pieces, an open elevator guided by rails that form a helical structure brings the art to the showroom in a rotating motion.

Materials used - concrete, rusted metal (steps) and Australian oak.
