Movement Theory

Words: Purpose, Function and Dynamic

When considering movement in architectural structures, two key issues need to be considered - function and purpose.  While moving or movable structures can be a design feature, the movement should serve a purpose and add to the functional nature of the building or structure.  Movement also assists with keeping the design dynamic and is a reminder of the evolution of design - the building does not just remain static.

These animated drawings are an early exploration of the bridging capabilities of the pods. Further development will be considered in the final design.

5 - 5 real time image 

Based on the Piranesi plan view, the design developed from the idea of a circular shape - pods act as rooms and bridges as corridors, creating a perfect organised chaos.

Any pod can be utilized as a multipurpose room; each room is "every room", with the moving parts adding extras capabilities and allowing the pods to be transformed for different activities.

The Bridge also connect the square house with the main surrounding buildings, fitnes aquatic centre and the international house.

The Two Moving Elements:

Drawn from the Theory, the moving elements are there to serve a purpose. The pods can move to create bigger or smaller spaces as and when needed. The roof in the theater can open for temperature control or to allow natural light in for better energy efficiency.
